2024 MESBG 600pt Tournament

"Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east." - Gandalf, The Two Towers

I just thought I'd post some pictures of a (somewhat) recent 600pt tournament I participated in. I took the Riders of Eomer Legendary Legion, and ended with a win, a draw, and a loss. It's an interesting LL, but suffers from being made up of solely overcosted models (besides maybe Erkenbrand, who I didn't take):

The Riders of Eomer:

Eomer [LEADER] w/ Horse, Shield, Throwing Spear
1x Rider of Rohan w/ Banner
1x Rider of Rohan w/ Throwing Spear
3x Riders of Rohan

Gandalf the White w/ Shadowfax
1x Rider of Rohan w/ Throwing Spear
2x Riders of Rohan

Captain of Rohan w/ Horse
1x Rider of Rohan w/ Throwing Spear
2x Riders of Rohan

14 models @ 600pts, with 8 might, and 11 bows.

Painting Gandalf the White took a long time, but it is a gorgeous model kit.

I haven't written too much about this tournament, mostly because I forgot to write it up until well after I attended, and can't remember much. I figured everyone likes photos though, so enjoy!

Opponent 1: Moria monster mash, playing Capture, and Control:

A Terrifying list! Literally.

Not much to say on this game. my army's LL bonus hard-countered the mightless monsters, and the scenario heavily favoured my mobile list. 12-0 Win.

Opponent 2: Khazad-dûm + Erebor Reclaimed, playing Destroy the Supplies:

This was an interesting Durin + Thorin impossible alliance,
with a Dwarf Ballista added in for good measure.

The ballista was off the chops this game. It dismounted my captain early on, and killed 4 riders throughout the game, one of them being my banner. I was too impatient this game (this was a theme), and tried to punch through my opponent's lines. This didn't really work, especially when I could have just used my speed to go around. 2-2 Draw.

Opponent 3: Ugluk's Scouts LL, playing Lords of Battle:

No photo of this opponent's army,
but he had 40+ models. Gross!

This game was over pretty quickly. I skirmished for 2 turns taking out most of my opponents few bows. Instead of continuing to whittle down my opponent, I called the LL ability, and went in. I had one good turn (10+ kills), and was then swamped, surrounded, and tabled. Being hasty was silly this game, it was an easy win if I'd just been more patient. Oh well. You live, and you learn. 1-12 Loss.

Overall Thoughts: The only conclusion I remember from playing this list at a second tournament, is that it's really not my style. I'm not much for skirmishing around, and plinking away at an opponent. I find it too slow, and was just getting frustrated, and then rushing in. This was pretty much the cause of my draw and loss. If I'd been more patient, I could definitely have plinked down my opponents, and then come in at the end to deliver the killing blow. Also Gandalf is very, very overcosted (but looks very, very cool).

I managed to get best painted, mostly on the back of Gandalf (He does stand out as a great centrepiece in this army). Here are some photos of the other armies that were brought to the tournament:
